Donlin Drive Elementary

Dear DDE Families,

I hope that you enjoyed your spring break with family and friends! April will be another action packed month for our DDE students and families. This month our 3rd-6th graders will complete the NYS ELA and Math Tests and we have three evening events scheduled for our families.

NYS ELA testing will take place on April 16th- 18th and the NYS Math test will take place on April 24th- 26th. Please make every effort to make sure your student arrives to school on time and is well rested on testing days. We will begin the tests at approximately 9:30 in every 3rd- 6th grade classroom. These are not tests students can study for. However, students can prepare by attending the after school practice sessions, eating a healthy breakfast and by getting plenty of rest before taking the tests. Please see the NYS testing article within this newsletter for more information about the new tests.

It’s that time of year when families start thinking about the next school year and their child’s next classroom teacher. Our building does not accept or guarantee class requests. If your child has an extenuating circumstance or need that you would like considered, please put the information about your child in writing and submit it to me by the end of May. Teacher requests should not be submitted to classroom teachers because many changes occur over the summer as students move in and out of the building. Thank you for understanding this complicated and important process.
We have three fun family events this month including our Bingo Night on April 12th, our Roller Skating Night on April 26th and our Open House and Book Fair on April 30th. We look forward to a large turn-out for each event, especially our Open House and Book Fair where we will celebrate the academic achievements of all of our students.
