Syracuse Construction Career Day  

The Syracuse Builders Exchange, PEB and the many Building Trades Unions are happy to bring back this year's Syracuse Construction Career Day!  The event takes place on Thursday, October 12th, from 8:30 am-2:00 pm (attending school groups only need to spend 2.5 hours, but are encouraged to stay longer) at the Exhibit Center/Dairy Barn at the NYS Fairgrounds.  Students in grades 9-12 are welcome to attend.

By attending this event, students will learn about the many different opportunities available to them from nearly 40 different types of construction-related companies and union contractors in the industry. They will be able to speak directly with employers, college representatives, and unions to discuss apprenticeship programs, talk about hiring information, to participate in hands-on exhibits as well as heavy equipment displays.

STEM in the Workplace Events

STEM in the Workplace  

A special opportunity to learn about Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) careers in CNY through those practicing those disciplines.   SRC, Inc.is opening its doors to student and teachers so they can meet STEM professionals and witness STEM in action. These events include a tour of SRC's state-of-the-art facilities, games and activities to introduce new concepts, one-on-one time with engineers and scientists, lunch, and more. October 20 – Educators in the STEM Workplace WHO: Educators from any CNY school district can register. We will send a confirmation with event details sometime before October 20. WHEN: 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. WHAT: Learn first hand what it takes to work at SRC, meet STEM professionals and learn about the foundational STEM skills needed to be successful later in life. COST: Free [ Register Women in the STEM Workplace ·        November 3 – Women in the STEM Workplace WHO: Students in grades 7-9 from any CNY school district can register. Max 8 students per district plus one chaperone – please coordinate with others in your district. We will send a confirmation with event details sometime before November 3. Lockheed Martin Women in Engineering 

Friday, December 8th.

Lockheed Martin - RMS in Syracuse is pleased to invite you and two of your female ninth/tenth grade students to an event designed to celebrate Women in Engineering on Friday, October 28, 2016.

Women in Engineering (WIE) was created for young women in junior high school and is designed to encourage them to investigate the world of Engineering and the variety of career paths it can offer them.  Our team has developed a series of sessions that will challenge these young women to dream and imagine.

CNY STEM Scholars Program: 

The CNY STEM Scholars Program was designed in conjunction with Partners for Education and Business (PEB) and the CNY STEM Hub, to encourage students to pursue STEM majors in fields that local companies are looking to hire. High school seniors who are residents of Onondaga, Oswego, Oneida, Madison, Tompkins, Cortland or Cayuga counties are eligible to apply and preference is given to those attending a higher education institution in New York state.

Scholarship applications for 4-year scholarships are due on Feb 28, 2017. Selections will be made in April and students will be notified the week of May 1, 2017. Scholarship applications for 2-year scholarships are due May 15, 2017. Contact scholarships@ cnystem.com for any questions.

Applications are available through the cnystem.com website. Students will be asked for the following information: • General biographical background
• Copy of high school transcript
• Answers to questions on experiences and interests

• Essay on the importance of STEM education

• Two letters of recommendation

Past Event: Syracuse University NewHouse "Fall Work Shop" 

Each year, Syracuse University hosts a prestigious photography event for its students called "The Fall Workshop.” The event is scheduled for October 13-16, and for the first time we’re expanding this learning opportunity to include a small group (7-10) of high school students (7-10) from Central New York. We ask for your help identifying students (juniors/seniors) who – in your opinion – show tremendous potential in visual communications and who might benefit from a university-level training workshop.

Since this is a scholarship opportunity, there is NO COST to attend. Meals/snacks will be provided on Friday and Saturday. Transportation to/from The Fall Workshop will be the responsibility of the student. Students must bring their own camera gear. DSLR equipment preferred.

Past Event: Manufacturing Day at Lockheed Martin 

Students and Parents invited to Lockheed Martin,

During the event, students will be able to hear from Lockheed Martin employees, participate in activities, and go on a tour of the facility.

Lockheed Martin Overview and Meet & Greet: Hear about the variety of work that is done at Lockheed Martin and speak with employees with successful careers in manufacturing.

Lean Manufacturing Exercise: Participate in a demonstration that showcases the principles of what manufacturers do in everyday business.

Facility Tour: Participants will get to tour the Lockheed Martin facility’s manufacturing and production areas. Employees will give thorough explanations of the areas and answer questions about Lockheed’s products such as radars and towed arrays.

Dinner: Dinner will be provided during the event. If you have any food restrictions or allergies please indicate that in an email to lm-manufacturing-day.gr-rms@lmco.com.

 Central New York students are invited to be part of Lockheed Martin’s Women in Engineering Day. The goal of this event is to spark interest in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) through hands-on activities and exposure to a wide range of engineering disciplines. Join us and be inspired to pursue a life-changing, world-altering career, because there’s a little bit of engineer in all of us! 

The Women in Engineering event will be held at the Lockheed Martin facility on Electronics Parkway on October 28, 2016 from 7:45am to 2:10pm.

Past Program Information: 

The Partners in Education program for the Liverpool Central School District was formed to develop partnerships that will restructure the expectations and  outcomes for our graduates. The program has gathered the resources of the district and the community of higher education, business, entrepreneurs and other occupations, including medical and finance, to consider the skills and experiences students need to be college, career, and citizenship ready. 

The program has established partnerships with a number of businesses and as first steps will host quarterly seminars for all high school students, as well as prepare a structure for students to participate in job experiences, job shadows and internships over their four years in high school. 

Particular focus will be given to prepare, expose and expand the skills and knowledge for college, career and citizenship readiness, as well as the required 21st Century skills of collaboration, communication, critical thinking and creativity.

Past Event: Students visit C&S Companies with PLTW Engineering Design and Development Students

Liverpool PLTW students visited C&S Companies and took part in an Engineering Careers workshop and professional panel. Founded in 1968, the C&S Companies are known nationwide for client-focused engineering, architecture, planning, environmental, and construction services. Hosted by professional engineer Frank Spina and career panel discuss with Liverpool alumni Engineers  Tyler Long and Ricky Azato.
